The framework developed by Microsoft that runs mostly on Microsoft Windows is referred as .NET Framework. It accommodate language interoperability and includes a large class library named Framework Class Library [FCL] across several programming language. Programs written for .NET Framework is carried out in a software environment named Common Language Runtime [CLR], memory management. FCL and CLR are the essence of .NET Framework.
FCL accommodate user interface ,database connectivity,web application development,and network communications.The software produce by programmers are the combination of their source with .NET Framework and other libraries.An integrated development environment largely for .NET software called Visual Studio are produced by Microsoft.
In 1990s .NET Framework was developed by Microsoft, commencing under the name of Next Generation Windows Services [NGWS] .The first beta version of .NET 1.0 were released by late 2000.
Microsoft ,Hewlett - Packard , and Intel worked to standardize Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) and C# in August 2000. Both were ratified Ecma International (ECMA) standards by December 2001.In April 2003 it was followed by International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO - IEC 23271:2012 and ISO /IEC 23270: 2006 are the current version of ISO Standards.
Microsoft and their partners leverage for CLI and C#,ECMA and ISO required that all patents essential to actualize be made available under " reasonable and non- discriminatory term". All the terms and conditions are agreed by the organization and to make the patents available royalty - free.
